GySgt John "Gunny" Wilson
Gunny's Ridge was founded in loving memory of Gunnery Sergeant John "Gunny" Wilson—a decorated Marine, devoted community leader, and steadfast friend.
John served honorably in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. During his service, he survived a devastating roadside bomb attack in Iraq; despite suffering severe injuries, including a broken wrist and a major leg wound, his immediate priority was rescuing and caring for his fellow Marines. For his extraordinary heroism, John was awarded the Purple Heart, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon, alongside more than 25 other distinguished service decorations.
Beyond the battlefield, John's dedication to service never wavered. As Commander of American Legion Post 952 and an active firefighter with the Hookstown Volunteer Fire Department, he was a pillar of his local community. Known for his unwavering leadership, empathy, and readiness to help anyone in need, John left an indelible mark on every life he touched.
Gunny's Ridge carries forward his enduring legacy of brotherhood, selflessness, and selfless service.
